The Gremlin family…

Tuesday 12/9

The closer you get to the try line the further away it seems to get… as we approach departure day the sudden appearance of a number of heretofore unseen niggles (also known as the f#@&ing Gremlin family) is driving me nuts I tell you. First problem I should have anticipated as I have been to Spain before – when you order something from a supplier and he tells you it will be there on Wednesday or Friday or whichever bloody day of the week – don’t believe him as he is just blowing smoke up your ass. Spain will never be involved in a war again – the damn fracas will be over, done and dusted long before they ever arrive on the battlefield!

In this particular case it was for a number of fan belts. The way these motors are set up with extra high capacity alternators dictates that there are three different size belts for each engine. Extra belts are also one of those spare parts you just don’t cross oceans without so it is imperative that we get them… Then we discovered that the belt tensions on the raw water pumps had been adjusted to their maximum (hence needing new belts) and when we tried to get the belt off the starboard side pump it just so happened that that the adjusting stud sheared off… Gaargghhhh!! One day when I grow up I am going to get a proper job…

But, we are close to leaving, close enough that barring some really serious unforeseen problem, it is likely to be on the next weather window – which according to my forecast program looks like the early hours of Saturday. As today is only Tuesday that might well change by Friday… you just have to love the absolute precise schedules that we run on – “When will you leave?” When the wind blows from the right direction..” “Ok, so when will that be?” “Dunno, when it feels like it…” Que sera sera.

Stay tuned…

Y’all take care and stay safe.
